The Torch won four awards this year including Honorable Mention for feature story written by Jack Young Jr. and three other members of The Torch editorial team.

The Torch won 4 awards total, two honorable mentions one for feature story and one for news photo, and two third place awards for diversity, equity, & inclusion coverage and deadline writing for mid-sized schools at the annual Illinois College Press Association contest.
“I’m really proud of how hard The Torch has been working,” said Avery Causley-Ingram, the editor-in-chief, a sophomore at Roosevelt and a double major in journalism and media studies and social justice.
“Getting recognized for the Kamala Harris news photo is an honor as it was a unique opportunity to cover the event just below where we go to school. Gaining press access was the only way I could have taken that good of picture,” Ingram says.
Managing editor, Madeline LaFrombois was the award winner for third place in headline writing.
“My younger self, struggling to get a passing grade in English classes, would be so proud of this accomplishment. I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such an amazing Torch team and share important headlines with the RU student body,” LaFrombois states.
Staff writer Jack Young Jr. a student at Roosevelt, majoring in journalism won an honorable mention award for his feature story of security guard Derrick Allen.
“I feel happy and proud that my writing has earned an award. Really motivating for me to keep going and to pursue my dream in journalism,” Young states.
The Torch is very proud of it’s team and will continue to strive to be better every year.
