Students all over Chicago skipped school on Friday morning to convene in Grant Park to participate in the worldwide Global Climate Strike. This protest was a part of the global movement spearheaded by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, according to the Chicago Tribune, in an effort to encourage world leaders to pass more legislation to curb climate change. Protesters marched to Federal Plaza chanting things like “Donald Trump, hey you, we deserve a future too” and “oceans are rising, and so are we.” Sister marches occurred simultaneously in cities all over the world.
