A new partnership between Roosevelt University and Harper College will bring bachelor degree programs to Harper in 2018.

The University Center at Harper College opened in early 2018 in Palatine, IL.

“The partnership was the vision of Harper College president, Dr. Kenneth Ender and he thought if colleges worked more seamlessly together, more students would graduate,” Robert Parzy, the director of admissions and the co-coordinator of the University Center at Harper College, said.

Along with DePaul and Northern Illinois University, Roosevelt will offer bachelor degrees for students looking to continue their education at a cheaper cost.

Tuition rates at the University Center at Harper College are reduced compared to the normal Roosevelt rates. “Scholarships, financial aid and financial incentives all lead to lowered cost for students. The hope is that the lowered cost will create more access to bachelor degrees,” Parzy said.

“Students complete their associate degrees through Harper College, then they can enroll in the bachelor programs, and are considered Roosevelt students,” Erica Poremba, executive director of community college and academic relations for Roosevelt University, said.

Roosevelt will only be offering bachelor programs in criminal justice and early childhood development, but plans to offer more in the future. Parzy said Roosevelt also plans to introduce a program in health science administration that will only be offered at Harper College.

“Pending approval from Harper College, the health science administration degree will help students looking to go into medical management,” Parzy said.

Poremba said there are incentives for Roosevelt being apart of the partnership. ”The University Center at Harper College provides a platform for Roosevelt to offer programs at other locations. Roosevelt provides all the faculty, and everything is Roosevelt except the space,” Poremba said.

In turn, Harper will provide the additional materials as needed. ”The strategic partners at the University Center at Harper College get offices at the Harper Campus in Palatine, access to free classroom space and get to run promotions on the Harper Campus,” Parzy said.

The possibilities of more bachelor programs being introduced is all based on the success of the initial partnership.

Parzy said that the best way to expand the University Center at Harper College is to first reach stability. “More programs all depend on how many students are interested, and how many students enter the initial programs,” Parzy said.

Harper is open to hosting as many bachelor programs as possible, and if successful, Roosevelt will be willing to bring more bachelor programs to the University Center at Harper College, according to Poremba.
