Just because Roosevelt doesn’t have a football team, doesn’t mean that the student body can’t bond over our school pride with one another for an entire week at the start of the school year. Homecoming Week 2015 wrapped up on Friday, Oct. 9.
Each day throughout the week, the student activity board, SPEED, put on an event for the students to come together over their excitement of what the year has to throw at them.
The Homecoming Kick Off Party started things off on Monday. It was filled with a large blow up twister obstacle course, a photo booth and a license plate custom screen printer. The event concluded with an introduction of the students competing for homecoming court: Brandon Rohlwing, Jason Curry, Kristen Rosario, Kerrigan Tobin, Avery Kincaid and Rachel Brown.
On Tuesday, students dropped by school offices such as the Center of Student Involvement during the course of the day and got crafty showing their school pride decorating the workspaces.
The annual lip sync battle took place on Wednesday, with contestants showing off their moves. First place was given to Brandon Rohlwing who performed to The Little Mermaid’s “Part of Your World.” Other contestants brought back moves of High School musical, gave their all to The Weeknd and showered the audience with paper money while dancing to Black Eyed Peas “My Humps.”
On Thursday, the third floor of the Wabash building was turned into a lazer tag zone where teams battled one another in the dark through various obstacles for victory.
The week’s major event took place on Friday. The James Bond themed homecoming dance took place at the Black Renaissance Hotel. The evening included appetizers and a roulette table with large glittery dice decorating the space. Dancing took place inside the ballroom. At 10:30 p.m., the Homecoming King and Queen were announced as Brandon Rohlwing and Kerrigan Tobin who then kicked off their first dance.
